Guest Lecture: Dr. Bryan Dewsbury

In partnership with the office of EJIE and our HHMI-IE grant, we are excited to host Dr. Bryan Dewsbury from Florida International University to our campus.

Lecture: “We the People- Education that Creates Opportunities for All to Thrive” discusses how effective teaching and fostering community can create opportunities for all to thrive, especially those from historically excluded ethnic and racial groups, and explores the challenges of driving meaningful institutional progress.

Brief Biography:

Dr. Dewsbury is an Associate Professor of Biology at Florida International University (FIU) and the Principal Investigator of the Science Education And Society (SEAS) research program, blending research on the social context of teaching and learning, faculty development of inclusive practices, and cultivating equity in education. He is also a Fellow of the RIOS (Racially-Inclusive Open Science) Institute where he assists institutions of higher education in transforming their practices toward equity-mindedness. Dr. Dewsbury grew up in Trinidad and Tobago and immigrated to the United States in 1999. He received a BS in biology from Morehouse College and an MS and PhD in biology from FIU.
